Seasonal Decorator – Winter Decor

Winter Decor went up this week as I took down our Christmas decorations. Choosing interchangeable decorations, makes this transition fairly easy.

Living in Missouri, means snow is likely through the end of March. So, I decorate for both Christmas and winter with snowmen, pine cones and evergreens. For winter, I replace specific Christmas decor with more generic accessories.

From Christmas to Winter Decor -Dining Area

For Christmas, I had a hutch decorated with snowmen plates and figurines. All I did was replace two holiday plates with white pitchers.

Changes to the other hutch were equally simple. I removed the Nativity set and one Christmas tree plate and added a basket and more pitchers. (Can you tell I collect pitchers?)

Because the mantle was more generic, the only change I made was removing twinkle lights from the greenery. I really like the large pine cones I picked up last September at a Kentucky campground.

From Christmas to Winter Decor -Living Room

More Christmas decorations were removed from the living room–the tree, another Nativity set, Santas etc. I replaced them with winter blues and silver including a new flower arrangement. I found some blue berry and flocked spruce stems at Hobby Lobby ( http://Hobby Lobby ) that I thought looked wintry. Instead of moss at the base of the flowers, I used an iridescent tinsel that gives it a sparkingly, icy effect. I kept the mantle the same with the silver and my favorite winter picture, a snow scene from Hatton, photographed by my cousin, Brett.

From Christmas to Winter Decor -Bedroom

Changing to Winter Decor in the bedroom was the easiest! All I did was remove the mistletoe hanging from the picture frame. I love the quilt I found at Kohl’s a few years ago. It looks great at Christmas and all winter long.

Changing Decor means Deep Cleaning

Although changing from Christmas Decor to Winter Decor was simple, it took me about four days to complete the changes. This is due to boxing up the Christmas decorations and doing a fairly deep clean. I always try to do a deep clean whenever changing decor so everything looks fresh. This season, I only included cleaning a ceiling fan in addition to dusting and vacuuming everywhere. Usually I wash any artificial flowers used and all the glassware. However, this year I bought new flowers for my arrangement and decided the glassware still looked fine from washing it for Christmas decorating.

It’s a good thing I’m still doing seasonal decorating so I can keep the house fairly clean. Most years I clean regularly since I like to entertain often. But with social distancing, the entertaining has almost stopped, so a seasonal decor change made me clean!

Seasonal Decorator – Winter Decor

How do you decorate for winter? I’m sure it depends upon what area of the country you live in. Pine cones and snowmen might look kinda silly in Florida! That’s one of many reasons why I like living in the Midwest. The drastic changes in seasonal weather allow me to change my decor to go along with the seasons.

I have to watch my decorating budget, so I love it when I can interchange some of the accessories. Summer will include the blues but with more yellows and greens.

Hope you enjoy decorating as much as I do. Include a picture of your decor in your comments. I always like getting new ideas.
